John C. Persi, 93, of Hamilton, entered into God’s care Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Compassionate Care Hospice at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident. John was a graduate of St. Joachim’s Grammar School, Trenton High School and attended Rider College. He, along with his family, resided in the Chambersburg section of Trenton and was a former parishioner of St. Joachim’s Church, where he was an altar boy.
Mr. Persi, proudly served in the United States Army with the 82nd Airborne, 325th Glider Infantry Division, during World War II.
He was formerly employed with R.P. Bonanni Agency, a family run business, as a Real Estate Broker, prior to his retirement.
John was a member of the Italian American Sportsmen’s Club, Hamilton Senior Citizens Club and a Fourth-Degree member of the Bishop Griffith General Assembly, Knights of Columbus, Counsel 355 in Trenton.
He loved watching college sports, traveling with his late wife Pearl and eating out at Villa Mannino Ristorante where he enjoyed spending time with his Mannino family. His greatest love was watching his granddaughters and more recently his great-granddaughters play sports.
Predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Louise (Montervino) Persi, his step father, Peter Bonanni, and his loving devoted wife of 68 years, Pearl A. (Guarino) Persi who entered into Eternal rest in September of 2016; his brothers, Maurice Persi and Remo Bonanni, and a brother-in-law, Robert Giovannetti. John is survived by his loving daughter, Louise Babuschak and husband Michael; two cherished granddaughters, Juda Opacki and husband Michael and Dana Hanf and husband Stu; four adored great granddaughters, Gianna, Alexa and Adriana Hanf, and Kaila Opacki; his sister, Emily Giovannetti; three sisters-in-law, Mary Persi, Gloria Bonanni and Santina Alton. He is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held 8:30 am Thursday, December 21, 2017 from Hamilton Brenna Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse Mercerville Road, Hamilton, NJ 08619.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Thursday at St. Raphael’s Church, 3500 S. Broad Street, Hamilton, NJ 08610.
Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1200 Cedar Lane, Hamilton, NJ 08610.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
