Obituary for Earl Babbitt Sr.

Earl J. Babbitt Sr., 94, of Hamilton, passed away January 4, 2018, at Compassionate Care Hospice Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton after several illnesses.

Born in Hamilton, Earl attended Klockner School and Hamilton High School. He was employed by Clark’s Florist, Hamilton Township Board of Education, and retired from Crescent Wire. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows/St. Anthony’s parish, VFW Post 3525, DAV Chapter 41, American Legion Post 313 and IBEW 1130.

He was predeceased by his parents Theodore and Jennie (Carey) Babbitt, wife Rosina (DiGiorgio) Babbitt, Baby Babbitt, brother Alfred and sister Blanche G. Young.

Earl is survived by his son Earl Jr. and his girlfriend Mary Saia, brother Raymond and his wife Ellie, sister-in-law Ann Joyce Innocenzi and her husband Robert and many cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

He was a very devoted husband, father, relative, friend and army buddy.

He was a WWII army veteran serving with the 701st Tank Battalion Reconnaissance Platoon known as the “Recon Kids”, experiencing extensive combat in Holland, Belgium and Germany. He was the recipient of a Merit Citation. Along with his wife and buddies George and Bill, he organized several Battalion reunions and Earl was instrumental in raising funds for the Battalion’s historical marker at their training site in Bouse, Arizona.

He enjoyed entertaining family and friends with his wife especially during the holidays. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed traveling the United States.

Earl’s family would like to thank all his nurses, aides and doctors who cared for him during his many illnesses. They would also like to thank the Compassionate Care Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to him in his final days.

The funeral will be held 10:30 am Thursday. January 11, 2018 from the Hamilton Brenna Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd, Hamilton, NJ.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3816 East State Street Extension, Hamilton, NJ.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hamilton, NJ.

Calling hours for relatives and friends will be on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Earl’s name to Our Lady of Sorrows/St. Anthony’s Parish, 3816 East State Street Extension, Hamilton, NJ 08619.
