Giovanni Battista Mannino, 82, of Sewell, NJ, entered into God’s eternal rest at home on Thursday, July 26, 2018. Born and raised in Carini, Sicily, Giovanni served in the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica) and operated his own auto mechanic shop in Palermo where he was known as “Il Meccanico Intelligente”. In Italy he was a member of a men’s club called Circolo Dei Galantuomini. Giovanni emigrated to the United States with his wife Maria and children in July of 1975, taking up residence in the Chambersburg area of Trenton where they remained for many years. Giovanni built his pizza business with his wife Maria by his side, they owned and operated Mannino’s Famous Pizza on Hamilton Avenue in Trenton for many years as well as other pizza restaurants in Yardville, Hamilton Square, Hightstown and Bordentown. In 1988 Giovanni moved with his family to Robbinsville, NJ where they remained for 22 years.
Giovanni was well cultured in art, history, politics and sports, especially his hometown soccer team Palermo, as well as the Italian National Soccer Team. Giovanni was the family historian, he loved telling stories about Italy and his family tree. Giovanni was a hardworking and dedicated family man who loved nothing more than being with his beloved wife Maria and his family. They enjoyed vacationing together, especially enjoying cruises, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Cape May. They loved raising their children and having a hand in guiding the growth of their grandchildren.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Son of the late Croce and Antoninia (Armetta) Mannino; beloved husband of 52 years of the late Maria (Cusumano) Mannino; brother of the late Rosalia DiStefano, and Vito Mannino; brother-in-law of the late Salvatore Minnone, Nancy Mannino, Milena Cusumano and Girolamo DiStefano; Giovanni is survived by his four loving children, Antonina and husband Giovanni Sparacio, Marco Mannino and wife Denise, Maurizio Mannino and wife Cristina, and Francesco Mannino and wife Kristen; his 12 cherished and adored grandchildren, Alessandro, Giovanni Paolo, Francesca, Giovanni Battista, Marco Jr., Matteo, Luca, Christian, Julian, Adrian, Lorenzo, and Angelo; his 2 brothers Marcantonio Mannino and Croce Mannino and wife Teresa; 2 brothers-in-law Salvatore Cusumano and wife Maria Stella, and Nunzio Cusumano; a sister-in-law Laura “Pina” Minnone; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends both here and in Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown, NJ. Followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cemetery Ln., Bordentown, NJ. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd., Hamilton, NJ 08619.
