Robert Gary Kokesh, 71, of Hamilton, entered into God’s eternal rest on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at home. Born and raised in Trenton, NJ, Robert had resided in the San Francisco Bay area with his family from 1981 to 1989 before moving back to Hamilton Township. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War. Robert worked as a National Sales Manager within the LED/semiconductor industry for QT Optoelectronics for over 20 years and in his 60’s he discerned a call to study theology. He received his Master of Divinity in May of 2016 from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary and also had a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Rutgers University. Robert served as an Elder of the Allentown Presbyterian Church and Chaplain at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
For over 20 years, Robert coordinated his church’s quarterly meals that were served to the homeless in Trenton. He also worked on behalf of advocating justice as a member of both the Greater Trenton Area Chapter of the Campaign to End the New Jim Crow and the Mass Incarceration Task Force of the Presbytery of New Brunswick.
Robert had many hobbies and enjoyed saltwater fishing, gardening, cooking, baking, canning, pickling, home theater audio visual, the arts, and singing. He was also an extra class level ham radio operator, having connected earthquake survivors when communications were down. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend to many.
Son of the late Lotto and Mary (Sidelnik) Kokesh; Robert leaves behind to mourn his loss, his loving wife of 40 years, Mary (Sekeras) Kokesh; his two sons, Gary Kokesh and wife Annie Lamoureux, and Paul Kokesh and husband Chris Ginocchetti; a son in spirit, Leroy Williams; a brother, Walter Kokesh; and a brother-in-law, Andrew Sekeras; as well as many other family and friends.
Presbyterian funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Allentown Presbyterian Church, 20 High St., Allentown, NJ 08501. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd., Hamilton, NJ 08619 and again Wednesday morning at the Allentown Presbyterian Church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s memory to Get SET After School Program. Get SET ensures that Trenton students grades 1st through 8th will be reading at or above their grade reading level, providing educational strength for our youth as a preventative means of breaking the school-to-prison pipeline.
