Obituary for Edward Bettino

Edward Bettino
Edward Thomas Bettino passed away at home surrounded by family on September 27, 2018. Ed was born to Adele and Delespro Bettino in Ogdensburg, New Jersey on May 27, 1924. He was inducted into the United States Army in April, 1943 serving with the 45th Infantry Division and fought in the Battle of Anzio, Italy and he received two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained. At the age of 19, Ed was a German prisoner of war for over one year.
Nancy Mumola met and married the love of her life, on September 2, 1950. Nancy told many that “I fell in love with Ed the moment he walked into the office where I was working. I fell in love with his blue eyes.”
Ed is survived by his beloved wife and children, Celeste, Teresa (Donald Driscoll), Edward (Mary Catherine Chapuk) and one sibling Rose Smith (Leon “Red” Smith). He has four grandchildren, Andrew Edward Bettino (Erin Catlin); Daniel Thomas Bettino (Karina Leon de Bettino); Grace Megan Bettino (Danny Prody); and Joseph Christopher Green. Additionally, three great grandchildren: Ansel Bettino, Thea Bettino and Luna Bettino.
There are many individuals and agencies who guided Ed and our family. We would like to acknowledge their love, compassion, respect and quality care for Ed: Greenwood House Homecare Services and Hospice Care and to the Marines whose immediate response and gracious respect for a fellow soldier’s need for a ramp will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers the Bettino family request that donations be made to the Mercer County Veteran’s Assistance Program, 2280 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton, New Jersey 08619.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W. Upper Ferry Rd., Ewing, NJ. Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at 2:30 PM at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Parkside Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 1584 Parkside Ave., Ewing, NJ 08638. Please visit Edward’s tribute page at www.brennacellinifuneralhomes.com
