Obituary for David John Gummel

David John  Gummel
David John Gummel, 73, of Ewing, entered into God’s eternal rest on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Capital Health Systems at Hopewell. Born in Trenton, David was a lifelong area resident. He retired from General Motors in West Trenton after 34 years of dedicated employment as a tool & die maker. He served his country during the Vietnam War as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. David was a board member for the West End Soccer Association for many years as well as a coach for the Ewing Little League. He refereed for both high school and recreational soccer teams for many years. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and camping. David loved traveling with his family and grandkids, and especially loved attending their various sporting events where he was always there to cheer them on proudly. David was a huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He was an extremely loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Son of the late, Aloysious and Ruth (Rogers) Gummel; brother of the late, Paul Gummel; David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elaine (Rynearson) Gummel; his four children, Michael Gummel and wife Susie, Nancy Alpert, Robert Gummel, and Jimmy Gummel and wife Layla; eight grandchildren, Angelina, Jacquelyn, LeeAnna, Bailey, Avery, James, Delaney, and Jarrett; four siblings, Al Gummel and wife Loretta, Richard Gummel and wife Sue, Jack and Wes Gummel; three sisters-in-law, Janice Gummel, Betsy Hymas, and Jody Rue; a brother-in-law, Dick Rynearson and wife Tammy; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 W. Upper Ferry Rd., Ewing, NJ 08628. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, 1800 Hamilton Ave., Hamilton, NJ. Family and friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Tuesday morning from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Parkside Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 1584 Parkside Ave., Ewing, NJ 08638. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David’s memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th FL., NY, NY 10004 or online at www.jdrf.org or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
