Bruce Cosaboom Obituary

R. Bruce Cosaboom, 78, of Falls Township, PA passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Serenity Hospice at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital- Hamilton.  Bruce was born in Mt Holly, NJ on March 20, 1945 to parents Roland and Betty (Taylor) Cosaboom.  He grew up in the beautiful countryside of Medford, NJ and graduated from Lenape Regional High School in the class of 1963.  Bruce received his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University in 1967 and then went on to complete his CE Masters Degree at a later time.  He was a faithful Rutgers football and basketball fan and enjoyed attending the games.

He retired from his career of serving the people of New Jersey after 35 years with the State of New Jersey, Department of Transportation.  Besides playing some pranks on his fellow employees, he was instrumental in designing and developing a bridge deck sealer system to prevent corrosion to structural elements under bridges.  It was not only effectively used in the state of New Jersey but was adopted by other DOTs across the country.

Before downsizing to Fallsington PA in 2018, his hobbies included gardening, fishing, sailing, vacationing at LBI, making his famous fruitcakes for the holidays and renovating his prior homes in Ewing Township, NJ and Lower Makefield PA.  He also had past experiences clamming at Barnegat Bay, building homes in Ocean County for Shapiro Brothers and becoming a dance instructor with Fred Astaire Studios. Throughout most of his life, he cared for beloved collies & cats & he also was an avid feeder of birds.

Bruce developed a deeper relationship with his Lord & Savior in 1983 at Ewing Baptist Church.  He loved singing in the choir, helping fellow congregants and served as a deacon at Cornerstone Church (former Ewing Baptist Church) Pennington, NJ and later at Woodside Church in Yardley, PA.

Not a world traveler, he was fortunate to have taken trips to several states in the US, Macuto, Venezuela, a Mediterranean  cruise, St Thomas & a European trip with dear friends to Belgium, Germany & Paris, France.  But his heart always returned to his 1st love, Long Beach Island, NJ.

Son of the late Roland & Betty (Taylor) Cosaboom & son-in-law to the late Louis & Yolanda (Piersanti) Ciprietti, brother to the late James Thomas Cosaboom, sister to the late Mary E. (Cosaboom) Fitzsimmons, brother-in-law to the late, Jim Fitzsimmons, uncle to the late John Mathewson.  He was caregiver to his beloved deceased collies, Sweetie Pie, Pepper , Dickens and his late cats, Emma & Missy.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary A (Ciprietti) Cosaboom for close to 51 years, a son David B Cosaboom and granddaughter, Teagan Starenchak. Also surviving are his sister-in-laws, Judy Cosaboom, and Barbara Ann (Ciprietti) Lysenko and husband, Mike Lysenko.  Nieces, Bonnie (Cosaboom) Mathewson, Jayne (Cosaboom) DiCicco and husband, Nick.  Nephews, James Cosaboom and wife, Kimberly, Michael Lysenko and wife Erin and Jason Lysenko and wife Corinne, close cousins, Tim and Eileen Gross.  As well as many cousins and other family and friends.  His present cats, Willie & Susie will also miss him.

Everyone who knew Bruce couldn’t escape  being in his presence without hearing at least one of his corny jokes that typically brought a smile and then came the groan.  It was his mission in life to bring moments of joy into their hearts.  Among his last wishes was that God would send His richest blessings to those who he crossed life’s paths with.  He was especially grateful for his weekly caregiver, Maureen, from Touching Hearts at Home - Yardley.  A shout out to the 5th floor doctors, nurses & staff at Capital Health - Hopewell who respectfully & lovingly ministered to his well being.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Woodside Church, 1667 Edgewood Rd, Yardley PA 19067 with services to follow immediately at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow in the Newtown Cemetery, 800 Newtown-Yardley Rd, Newtown PA.
