Ellen Martakis, 73, of East Windsor, NJ entered into God’s eternal rest on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at home. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Ellen had only resided in East Windsor this past year after the loss of her beloved husband Steve whom she adored. She was a Brooklyn girl at heart and in her younger years enjoyed fashion and dressing nice, she went out to live theater and loved dancing and listening to music. One of her close friends was Little Eva. Speaking of friends she is now re-united with her lifelong best friend Lena. She was always smiling and happy and never had a bad thing to say about anyone, always finding the good in others. Ellen was very easy going and found pleasure in the little things in life, it didn’t take much to make her happy. She enjoyed her coffee with the girls, hanging at the park with her friends, a good cigar, listening to music, singing and watching old movies. In the short amount of time she resided in her apartment complex in East Windsor, she made a huge impression on so many people.
Ellen was the type of person who was an angel on earth, she was extremely selfless always putting others first, she took anyone in and showed them unconditional love and gave whatever little she had to others. Ellen loved staring at the stars and moon. She would often sing “A Thousand Stars in the Sky” to her kids at night. Her life was spent caring for her entire family. She prayed faithfully and had full faith in God. She shared her faith with her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews and her siblings whom she loved spending time with.
Daughter of the late Gustave Ivanoff and Lillian McCarthy; beloved wife of the late Steve Martakis whom she missed immensely; she is survived by her 3 children, John Martakis and wife Lori, Catherine and husband Peter Gromitsaris and Gustave Martakis; her 4 adored grandchildren, John Martakis, Constantinos, Demetrios and Stratos Gromitsaris; her 3 siblings, Kathy Martone, Patricia Paravalos and Cornelius McCarthy and wife Migdalia “Mickey” as well as many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
