One summer Tommy was out on his brother Johnny's boat with us enjoying a vacation with family and friends, we stopped to float about on a deep rocky point. Our friend Stephen's son, Laszlo (7 at the time) pleaded to go fishing, "I wanna catch a fish!". Tommy took one of the janky broken fishing poles and dropped a line to entertain Laszlo... We all waited and enjoyed the late afternoon. At some point Tommy said he thought he got something and slowly reeled up his line. We did not know what we were in for. Slowly the interests of the crew perked as Tommy kept reeling. All gathered over the starboard railing, we watched a deep sea monster emerged at the end of Tommy's line. We were surprised to see a beautiful sizable lingcod. Johnny reached down and grabbed it with his bare hands and the brothers skillfully processed the fish on the back of the boat. We later took it to shore and cooked it on a beach fire with veggies and butter. It was by far one of the best tasting fish I have ever eaten, and one of the most delightful memories I have of Tommy.
