Obituary

James Zak, 81, of Hamilton, entered into God’s eternal rest on Father’s Day, June 21, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton. Born and raised in Trenton, James was a lifelong area resident. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. James retired after about 25 years as a security guard with the New Jersey State Police working at Drumthwacket offering protection to several former governors.
He loved going to the Jersey shore, gambling at the casinos, playing cards, and was an avid wrestling fan of the WWE. James loved nothing more than spending quality time with his beloved family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Hartmann) Zak; beloved husband of the late Joann (Eckelmann) Zak; brother of the late, Charles and David Zak; father-in-law of the late, Gary Bush; James is survived by his three children, Joanne Bush, Lori and husband Charles Karaffa, and Robert Zak and wife Diana; five grandchildren, Gary Bush Jr., Kristina Hovgaard, Heather and Ryan Allaire, and Kyle Karaffa; four great-grandchildren, Rosalie and Deklan Hovgaard, Gabriel Laboy, and Brooklyn Bush; two sisters, Maryann and husband Frederick Coniglio, and Carol Tazza; a special friend, Joy DeBoskey; and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Catholic funeral services will be held Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 12:00 PM at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd., Hamilton, NJ 08619. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Trenton, NJ. Family and friends may call Thursday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
