Andrew Serenelli Obituary

Andrew A. Serenelli, 101, of Yardville, NJ, entered into God’s eternal care on Sunday, April 14, 2024 at the Serenity Hospice unit at RWJ Hamilton. He was surrounded by his loving family.  Andrew was born in Trenton, NJ on November 23, 1922 to Italian Immigrant parents, Andrea and Giovanna (Epifani) Serenelli.  He spent many of his childhood years at St. Michael’s Orphanage Asylum and Industrial School in Hopewell, NJ with some of his siblings. He was one of nine children, the family home was located on Clark Street in Trenton.  

In June 1943, he entered the US Navy, to serve in WWII, as a Seaman First Class. He joined his three older brothers in military service. Two of Andrew’s brothers (Anthony and John) were prisoners of war in WWII. His brother Mario served during the Korean War and was a POW. Andrew trained as a Pharmacist’s mate and was later transferred to the US Marine Corp to train as a medic. Andrew entered the rank of Hospital Apprentice First Class (US Navy Corpsman). He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan on the LST 1056. They were headed to Hiroshima, Japan when they heard the atomic bomb had been dropped. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he returned home to Trenton, NJ (Clark St). Andrew worked at Trenton Pottery, the Reading Railroad and 31 years with the US Postal Service. After retirement he worked as a starter at Princeton Golf Course. Andrew was married to Rose (Migliaccio) Serenelli of Trenton, NJ for 67 years. They were neighbors growing up on Clark Street in Trenton. 

Andrew loved golfing, playing cards, spending time outside, and was a dedicated NY Yankees fan. He loved nothing more than quality time spent with his family.  Andrew was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

Son of the late Andrea and Giovanna (Epifani) Serenelli; brother of the late Joseph, Anthony, John, Mario, Theresa, and Anna Serenelli, and Susan Russo.  Andrew is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Rose (Migliaccio) Serenelli; his four children, Andrew Serenelli, Robert Serenelli and wife Marcia, Catherine Serenelli-Heinecke and husband Marc Heinecke, and Jennie Serenelli-Todd and husband Christopher Todd; six grandchildren, Alaina, Angelo, and Amalia Serenelli, Ella Heinecke, Andrew and Catherine Todd; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nieces and great great nephews.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, April 22, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at the Hamilton Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, 2365 Whitehorse-Mercerville Rd., Hamilton, NJ 08619.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM at St. Raphael’s R.C. Church, 3500 South Broad St., Hamilton, NJ.  Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, 400 Woolsey St., Hamilton, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Andrew’s memory to the National MS Society at www.nationalmssociety.org
